DESCRIPTION

A Jane Davis Designs Angel of Light brooch in bright silver-tone metal: a stylised angel with a large faceted clear crystal for a head, a ribbed halo, spreading pierced wings, a sculpted bow at the neck and a long openwork filigree gown that flares to a point. The back carries the oval Jane signature cartouche reading Jane © 1997 AOL and a standard pin with a locking C-clasp.

WORTH NOTING

• Signed on the reverse with the Jane script signature cartouche and © 1997 AOL — the mark of Jane Davis Designs' Angel of Light series.
• Silver-tone base metal (non-precious, as tested by the seller), with a faceted clear crystal head and a smaller crystal at the bow.
• Openwork filigree gown and pierced wings give the brooch lightness despite its 2.75" height.
• Era: 1997, confirmed by the copyright date cast into the signature plaque.
• Weight 8.12 g (seller's scale).
• Previous owner's initials are written in black marker on the back of the wings and skirt — see CONDITION.
• A Christmas, memorial or guardian-angel gift; the Angel of Light was made for exactly that purpose.

MEASUREMENTS

Approx. 2.75" tall × 2" wide across the wings, read against the seller's ruler photographs. Weight 8.12 g.

CONDITION

Good. The silver-tone finish is bright with light surface wear; the crystal head is clear and secure and the pin and C-clasp function. The reverse has hand-written initials in black marker on the wing and skirt (visible in the photographs) that are not seen from the front. No bent or missing filigree elements are visible.

FROM THE HOUSE

Jane Davis signed and dated her angels, which is why they turn up decades later still attributable — this one has 1997 cast right into the plaque. The design is clever: the crystal head throws light, the filigree gown weighs nothing, and the whole figure has the swept-back stance of a Renaissance annunciation.

Someone wrote their initials on the back, the way people did on a brooch that mattered to them, and I have left that in the photographs. Pin it on a coat lapel for Advent. Our storefront's brooch case is deep; ask if you would like the signature photographed. ~ Genevieve
