Y2K Chaps Tartan Plaid Equestrian Shoulder Bag Stirrup Hardware NWT
DESCRIPTION
A wonderfully preppy Y2K-era Chaps shoulder bag in classic red, forest green and black tartan, finished with glossy black trim and an abundance of polished gold-tone equestrian hardware.
The low, structured silhouette is particularly good — somewhere between a traditional shoulder bag and a small doctor's satchel — with twin rolled handles sweeping above the plaid body.
Across the front, leather-look straps are punctuated by gleaming horse-bit bars, while the center is finished with an oversized gold-tone stirrup plaque bearing the CHAPS name. Buckled details and substantial rings continue the riding-inspired theme without overwhelming the traditional tartan.
The interior provides a surprisingly rich contrast in deep red, with zippered organization for everyday essentials.
Best of all, this example remains new with its original Chaps hangtag attached — an increasingly uncommon condition for these early-2000s equestrian-inspired Chaps bags.
WORTH NOTING
New with original Chaps hangtag attached.
The hangtag bears the Chaps Est. 1978 branding; 1978 refers to the establishment of the Chaps brand and should not be interpreted as the manufacture date of this handbag.
The tartan textile, stirrup emblem, horse-bit hardware and overall construction correspond closely with Chaps' Y2K-era equestrian handbag collections. Comparable Chaps bags from this design family are documented in the secondary market as late-1990s/2000s pieces.
We conservatively date this example to the early 2000s/Y2K period.
MEASUREMENTS
Approximately 12" wide × 9" high × 4.5" deep.

CONDITION

Please review photographs closely for the condition of the tartan textile, black trim, handles, gold-tone stirrup and horse-bit hardware, corners, base and interior.
FROM THE HOUSE
Tartan and equestrian hardware have always understood one another.
This Chaps bag takes the combination rather seriously — deep red and green plaid, polished horse bits and an unapologetically large golden stirrup at the center. Better still, it has survived from the Y2K era with its original tag still attached.
A little country-house, a little collegiate, and particularly good once autumn arrives.
