DESCRIPTION

A beautifully spare vintage cocktail mixing set consisting of a tall clear glass pitcher and its long glass stirring rod — the sort of understated barware that relies entirely upon proportion, weight and function rather than decoration.

The mixer has a slender cylindrical body rising from a substantial weighted glass base, with a neatly pinched pouring spout worked directly into the rim. Its matching clear glass stirrer extends comfortably above the vessel, giving the set the wonderfully purposeful appearance of a proper old cocktail bar.

There is no gilding, color or etched decoration to dictate where it belongs. Instead, the heavy clear base and almost laboratory-like simplicity make it particularly handsome among more elaborate decanters and glassware.

Made for the stirred drink: martinis, Manhattans, Old Fashioneds and any cocktail best prepared with a little patience rather than a shaker.

WORTH NOTING

Two-piece set consisting of:

1 clear glass cocktail mixing pitcher
1 long clear glass stirrer

No maker's mark or etched signature is visible in the photographs.

The minimalist form is consistent with mid-century cocktail mixing pitchers, but without a surviving manufacturer's mark we have intentionally left the maker unattributed.

MEASUREMENTS

Pitcher approximately 8.5" high × 3.25" diameter.

Glass stirrer approximately 10" long.

Measurements are approximate.

CONDITION

Pre-owned vintage condition with age-appropriate evidence of prior use.

Please review photographs closely for the condition of the rim and pouring lip, heavy glass base, interior and the ends of the glass stirring rod.

FROM THE HOUSE

Not every bar piece needs decoration.

There is something particularly good about an old mixing glass that has been reduced to exactly what it needs to be — weight at the bottom, a proper pouring lip and a long glass rod for stirring something cold.

Add gin, vermouth and considerably less enthusiasm for shaking than Mr. Bond.
