1970s Retro Glass Snack Bowl Red Nuts Candy Munchies Chips Lettering
DESCRIPTION
A wonderfully graphic 1970s clear glass snack bowl, wrapped in bold red lettering naming all the essentials of a properly stocked cocktail hour—NUTS, CANDY, MUNCHIES, NIBBLES, SNACKS and CHIPS.
The substantial clear glass bowl has a softly flared silhouette with a deeply radiating starburst base, while the oversized red typography gives it exactly the sort of playful graphic character that made 1970s entertaining pieces so much fun.
Made for the coffee table, card table or home bar and still entirely capable of doing its original job.
WORTH NOTING
Matching examples of this distinctive snack bowl survive with the same red typography, flared approximately seven-inch form and radiating starburst base and are attributed to the 1970s.
We have not confirmed a manufacturer for this example. Although Federal Glass produced extensive snack and entertaining glassware during the period, we do not see a sufficiently clear Federal maker's mark to attribute this piece to the company.
MEASUREMENTS
Approximately 7 inches across the rim × 4.5 inches high, with a base approximately 4.5 inches across.
CONDITION
Good vintage condition with age-appropriate surface wear. There is a small area of yellowish/white residue to the interior bottom as photographed.
The red lettering remains wonderfully graphic. Please review photographs carefully for the lettering, rim, glass surfaces, starburst base and noted residue.
STYLE NOTES
Pure 1970s cocktail-hour fun—the bowl that eliminates any uncertainty about what belongs in it.
Perfect beside vintage barware, an ice bucket and a stack of cocktail napkins, or filled with mixed nuts for an unapologetically retro drinks table.
