1970s–1980s Cut Crystal Gold Gilt Demitasse Cups & Saucers Set of 6
DESCRIPTION
A wonderfully glamorous twelve-piece demitasse service for six, pairing brilliant clear cut glass with generous gold decoration — six petite cups and six matching saucers designed for espresso or after-dinner coffee.
Each cup has a substantial little presence despite its diminutive scale. Deep geometric cutting creates a faceted, almost jewel-like pattern through the bowl, while the base finishes in a radiating star cut. Broad gilt decoration wraps the upper cup, joined by a gleaming gold handle and fine gold rim.
The matching clear glass saucers provide a particularly pretty contrast, worked in a sweeping pinwheel pattern that catches the light beneath each cup and finished with a gold border.
Together they have exactly the sort of unapologetically elegant look that belonged on a well-stocked drinks trolley or brought out after dinner — small, sparkling and rather more interesting than an ordinary coffee service.
WORTH NOTING
This is a complete service for six: 6 demitasse cups + 6 matching saucers, 12 pieces total.
No maker's mark or surviving label is visible in the photographs, and we have therefore left the maker unattributed rather than assigning the set to one of several manufacturers that produced similar gilt crystal services.
MEASUREMENTS
Cups approximately 2.25" high × 2.25" diameter at rim.
Saucers approximately 4.5" diameter.
Measurements are approximate.
CONDITION
Pre-owned vintage condition. Gold decoration remains an important part of the character of the set and may show age-appropriate variation or wear. Please review photographs closely for the condition of the gilding, rims, handles, cut decoration and individual pieces.
FROM THE HOUSE
Tiny cups deserve a little ceremony. This set has all the sparkle of a proper crystal service compressed into demitasse proportions — particularly lovely brought out after dinner with espresso, cordials and something unnecessarily decadent for dessert.
