1980s–1990s Jeweled Rhinestone Statement Bib Necklace Green Black Gold Tone

DESCRIPTION

A gloriously dramatic late-1980s to 1990s statement necklace, built in the wonderfully excessive scale of the period with cascading clusters of jewel-toned rhinestones against antiqued gold-tone metal.

The necklace is arranged around three substantial jeweled drops, combining faceted stones in forest and olive green, smoky gray, black, milky opalescent white and clear crystal. Black teardrops anchor the lower points, while irregular rounds and ovals crowd together above them in floral-like clusters.

Nothing about it is particularly shy.

At approximately 51.8 grams, it has genuine substance, with a broad jeweled span across the neckline and a large central drop designed to become the focal point of an outfit rather than merely accessorize it.

The dark greens, smoke and black keep all that rhinestone exuberance surprisingly sophisticated — especially good against black velvet, silk, an evening jacket or a deliberately simple dress.

Dating to approximately the late 1980s–1990s, based upon its oversized clustered-bib construction, antiqued gold-tone setting, mixed faceted rhinestones and characteristic jewel-tone palette.

The stones are costume glass/rhinestones and are not represented as precious gemstones.

This necklace certainly wasn't.

A great tumble of smoky crystal, forest green, olive and black gathers across the neckline before descending into three unapologetically jeweled drops. Big, dark and wonderfully excessive — precisely the sort of piece that can make an otherwise sensible black dress considerably less sensible.
